TNI's Mission: Building a Safe and Prosperous Papua

Papua - The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) are on a vital mission to support the development and welfare of Papua, guided by the Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2020. This initiative outlines three key tasks for the TNI: ensuring security, aiding local governments in providing essential services, and engaging in inclusive communication with all community stakeholders. In response to ongoing security challenges from the Free Papua Movement Organization (OPM), the TNI has deployed specialized Military Task Forces to the region. These forces aim to create a stable environment that allows all stakeholders and residents to focus on development efforts without fear. The recent violence and intimidation by the OPM, including the tragic murder of New Zealand pilot Glen Malcolm Conning, have highlighted the pressing need for security in Papua.

Colonel Yogi Nugroho, commander of the HABEMA Media Task Forces, emphasized the TNI’s humanitarian actions, including the successful evacuation of victims and the release of hostages. These efforts reflect the TNI’s commitment to restoring peace and supporting the welfare of Papuan communities.

The TNI continues to work closely with local governments and other organizations to ensure that Papua remains safe, conducive, and ready for progress. Their mission is clear: to create a better future for all in Papua.
